Mercedes-AMG launches a second Cabriolet
With the CLE 53 4-Matic+, Mercedes-AMG is offering a second convertible alongside the SL Roadster. The four-seater is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. It produces 449 hp (330 kW) and is twin-turbocharged with an exhaust gas turbocharger and electric auxiliary compressor. The engine delivers a maximum torque of 560 Newton meters, with an overboost of 600 Nm for a short time. The integrated starter generator provides an additional 23 hp (17 kW) of short-term boost power and 205 Nm of torque. It also feeds the 48-volt on-board electrical system.
The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4-Matic+ Cabriolet features the 9G Speedshift transmission with intermediate throttle function and multiple downshifts, fully variable all-wheel drive and active rear-axle steering. Compared to the normal Mercedes model, the AMG has flared fenders and a wider track. It is almost six centimeters wider at the front and seven and a half at the rear. The electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver's Package.
The cockpit features a 12.3-inch driver's display and an 11.9-inch central display in portrait format, which can be electrically tilted from 15 to 40 degrees to avoid distracting light reflections when the soft top is open. The light strips of the ambient lighting extend all the way behind the rear seats. The top of the instrument panel, the edges of the vehicle and the lid of the soft-top compartment are upholstered in black nappa leather. To prevent the leather seats from heating up too much in summer, they have a special coating that reflects the sun's near-infrared waves. This keeps the leather up to 12 degrees cooler in direct sunlight than untreated standard leather. Even when the soft top is closed, the interior heats up less thanks to the cool seat covers.
Mercedes has not yet announced prices. Ordering starts in the summer, market launch in the second half of the year. (aum)
