Hyundai Kona: Electric first

Hyundai has given priority to the electric version in the development of the new Kona. The model, which is still also available as a combustion engine, has grown noticeably. That's understandable, because it serves many customers as a first car and family transporter. It looks futuristic, with slim lights and the new Hyundai face, but at the same time more playful than the strictly geometrically designed Ioniq models.

The Kona Electric is available with two battery sizes and a range of up to 514 kilometers. Charging is possible with up to 400 volts. The small battery is coupled to a 115 kW (155 hp) electric motor that delivers 255 Newton meters to the front wheels. If the larger battery is taken, the Kona electric produces 160 kW (218 hp) with the same torque. This costs 5200 euros extra, but already includes the otherwise 2200 euros "Trend" package, which is full of useful features that not only increase comfort, but also efficiency. Not entirely unimportant: The towing capacity also increases significantly, from a full 300 to 750 kilograms.

Even though it maintains the crossover look: The Kona Electric is only available with front-wheel drive. At least 15 centimeters of ground clearance ensure that it also makes good progress on light terrain. The comfortable suspension makes you want to go on long trips, but sporty ambitions are rather foreign to the Kona. Operation is logical and simple.
With the small battery, the Hyundai Kona Electric costs 41,990 euros, with the large battery it is at least 47,190 euros. As a combustion engine, the Kona is already available from 26,900 euros. (aum/jm)
