Production of the new Hyundai Kona electric started in the Czech Republic

Hyundai has started production of the new Kona electric at its Czech plant in Nošovice. Around 21,000 units are expected to roll off the production line here over the course of the year, with a further 50,000 in the coming year. Experts at the plant played a key role in developing the new models for Europe so that the special production engineering conditions could be taken into account at an earlier stage.

Hyundai Europe CEO Michael Cole emphasizes Europe's role as a core market: "In response to growing demand for our electric vehicles in the region and with a focus on shortened delivery times, the start of production of one of our most important electric cars in Europe underscores the importance of the European market for Hyundai."

By the end of 2023, production of the Kona electric is expected to account for approximately 15 percent of the Czech site's total production. In addition to the current 22 exclusively European markets, the electric car will be delivered from here to 20 additional countries. These include Turkey and Israel, as well as the islands of La Réunion and Guadalupe. A right-hand drive version for the UK, Ireland and Cyprus will also be produced here.

The proportion of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles in production at the plant this year is over 40 percent and growing steadily. From 2035, Hyundai aims to offer only zero-emission vehicles in Europe. (aum)
