Lancia builds future top model at Melfi plant

The future flagship of the Lancia brand is to be manufactured at the Melfi plant in southern Italy. The almost 4.70-meter-long electric vehicle with a hatchback is based on the Stellantis "STLA Medium" platform, which is designed purely for electric vehicles and is expected to boast a range of over 700 kilometers, short charging times, superior engine performance and high efficiency.

"Nearly 50 percent of the total volume we want to sell outside Italy," predicts Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano. "The STLA Medium platform is perfect for Lancia. Designed exclusively for electric vehicles, it is very efficient and offers a high level of comfort as well as the choice between front-wheel and four-wheel drive."

As part of a 10-year plan, Lancia plans to unveil three new vehicle models. The first will be the new Lancia Ypsilon in 2024, with a choice of hybrid or electric drive. The brand's top model will follow in 2026, and the new Lancia Delta in 2028. From 2026, Lancia plans to introduce only new models that are 100 percent electric, and from 2028 to sell only electric vehicles. (aum)
