Dakar pro Joan Pedrero won the Maxitrail category of motorcycles with a displacement of more than one liter in the Africa Eco Race on a Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250. The few adjustments to the almost standard machine included minor modifications to the radiator - due to the extreme desert conditions. During the first four days, Pedrero and the Pan America finished in the top 20 of the overall standings.
The Spaniard finished in 25th place in the overall standings, moving up one place on the twelfth and final stage. The winner was Jacopo Cerutti on an Aprilia Tuareg 660 ahead of two Yamaha Ténéré 700s. 33 of the almost 50 motorcyclists who started the race reached the finish line in Dakar. (aum)
