Kia EV9: Strong as a bear and mighty big

We have high expectations of the new flagship from the Kia port. With a battery storing almost 100 kWh, the five-metre-long SUV could travel around 500 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. Its power output of 283 kW (385 PS) enables extremely superior driving performance, the seven-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and its top speed is not limited until it reaches a speedy 200 km/h. The potential is tempting for the odd quick sprint, but we have always understood that high speed boosts energy consumption disproportionately.

So let's describe our journeys as "moderate", we were rarely traveling at more than 130 km/h and we largely ignored the tingling sprinting ability. Nevertheless, after around 300 kilometers we had to head for a charging station to replenish our energy supply. It takes around 30 minutes to restore the battery to 80 percent of its capacity, while the interior pampers with massage seats, a functional design and even a reclining position at the front.

Although the EV9 is a real heavyweight at 2664 kilograms, it is pleasantly light on its feet. Its handling is safe, but its width of almost two meters makes narrow roads an adventure. The trunk offers a volume of 333 to 2393 liters, with a maximum payload of 576 kilograms. And Kia's largest also sets standards in terms of towing capacity: it can tow 2500 kilograms. However, it is questionable how far its battery will be able to carry it. (aum)
