Nissan is building a production facility for solid-state batteries at its Japanese plant in Yokohama. The pilot plant, which is currently under construction, is intended to drive forward the development of high-voltage batteries - including through innovative production technologies. As part of its long-term corporate vision, the Japanese company aims to bring electric cars with solid-state batteries onto the market by the 2028 financial year.
The so-called all-solid-state batteries have almost twice the energy density of conventional lithium-ion batteries, shorter charging times due to better charging performance and cost less due to cheaper materials. The plan is to use them in various vehicle segments. (aum)
