Battery cooling: Tier 1 Mahle takes nature as its model

Mahle has improved battery cooling with the help of bionic structures. The Stuttgart-based automotive supplier has taken nature as a model for the design of the channels in its new cooling plate. They are no longer strictly geometrically aligned, so the coolant flows more slowly. According to Mahle, this increases cooling performance by ten percent with one-fifth less pressure loss and a more homogeneous temperature distribution. This improves the eifficiency of the battery and also speeds up the charging process.

The new cold plate, which also requires around 15 percent less material, will be officially unveiled for the first time at the IAA Mobility show in Munich at the beginning of September. (aum)
