Mahle significantly reduces emissions

Mahle has presented its Sustainability Report 2023. It provides insights into the current progress of the company's own sustainability initiatives. The automotive supplier has made particularly significant progress in reducing its CO2 emissions, including through the increased use of renewable electricity in production.

Compared to the base year 2019, Mahle reduced its emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and the procurement of purchased electricity by 43 percent. The technology group is therefore well on track to achieve its interim target of reducing these emissions by 49 percent by 2030. Mahle aims to become CO2-neutral by 2040 in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Compared to 2022, Mahle increased the use of renewable electricity by 10 percent. This was achieved primarily through the increased use of photovoltaics, for example through a new system at the plant in Izmir (Turkey). Solar thermal energy is also used, for example at the Indian site in Gurgaon, where a water heating system is powered by solar energy.

At the same time, Mahle has implemented a method for calculating the environmental impact of its products and can thus make product development more sustainable in the interests of its customers. The Group also made progress in occupational safety by reducing the frequency of accidents in its plants. (aum)
