Lexus UX gets more powerful drive

Lexus is giving the UX a more powerful hybrid drive. The power output increases from 135 kW (184 hp) to 146 kW (199 hp), the model designation changes from 250h to 300h. A 30 kW (41 hp) permanent magnet motor is now used on the rear axle of the all-wheel drive variants instead of the 5.3 kW (7 hp) induction motor. A lithium-ion battery with 60 cells and 222 volts also replaces the previous nickel-metal hydride battery in all variants. The standard average fuel consumption is between 5.0 and 5.7 liters

The Lexus UX with front-wheel drive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, while the all-wheel drive model's acceleration time is 0.8 seconds faster than its predecessor at 7.9 seconds. In the center of the cockpit is a revised, eight-inch multi-information display for the entry-level version. From the Executive Line upwards, the fully digital display grows to 12.3 inches. In addition to the new Pergamon White interior color, customers can also opt for a leather-free interior package with fabric or Tahara leatherette seats and leatherette upholstery on the gear knob and heated steering wheel. A camera on the steering column monitors the driver's attention.

Two new functions have been added to the assistance systems: Proactive Drive Assist uses a front camera to detect potential hazards at low speeds in urban traffic - for example crossing pedestrians, parked cars and cyclists. Safe Exit Assist prevents so-called dooring accidents: In the event of an imminent collision with a road user approaching from behind, the doors are prevented from unlocking. (aum)
