Electric tailgate for pick-ups

Electrically opening tailgates are nowadays standard in many cars. Even pick-ups drop the tailgate at the touch of a button. The Coburg-based automotive supplier Brose has now also discovered this market segment for itself and developed a small, lightweight and powerful solution for series production compared to its competitors. The system comprises a new drive, a control unit and two latches with a closing aid. All components are developed and produced in-house by Brose.

There were several special features to consider when developing the tailgate drive. Users often use pick-ups in dusty and muddy terrain or to lower boats into water. Based on a door drive, Brose developed a version that is resistant to water and dust. The family-owned company sees great market potential in North America in particular. After all, every fifth car sold in the USA is a flatbed truck. (aum)
