In 2012, after eleven generations, Mazda built its last car with a rotary engine, the RX-8. Since last year, the Wankel has been experiencing a renaissance as a range-extending generator in the MX-30 electric car. But that is not the end of the story. Today, Mazda has reinstated the "rotary piston engine development group" in drive development. It is to work on the further development of the alternative engine concept.
